We made and tested the amplifiers for the GQuEST AOMs. They work well.
Steps:
- Tap chassis holes for #4-40 screws
- Attach RF shielded BNC to amplifiers
One end should be unused
- Drill holes in front plate for BNCs (0.366 in: use V drill; U too tight)
- Drill hole in front plate for DC Power (.59 in: use 5/8 in drill)
- Drill holes in front plate for switches (0.24 in: use D drill; B, C too tight)
- Drill #6-32 pilot hole in bottom chassis and tap to hold AOM standoffs
- Add heat shrink to wire and solder amplifier live to switch middle
- Add heat shrink to wire and solder power ground to amplifier ground
- Add heat shrink to wire and solder power to switch top
- Put nut, washer, and heat shrink on cable
- Put cable through the front plate
- Solder BNC ends to BNC
- Attach BNC to nut so that it’s secure on front plate
- Attach nut and washer for power and switch
- Screw everything together
Shielded BNC solder procedure:
Use 10 gauge solid, go 3/4” down, strip plastic away
Remove some extra ground strand
Twist exposed ground strand together
Use 14 gauge stripper, expose ~3/8” of copper wire
When soldering, make sure only pin touches BNC
I still want to add some wire mesh to shield the back from RF but allow for air to flow to the amplifiers.
Alex made the power supply seperate from this chassis. I will let him comment on how to make that.
